Dale Oberlander Obituary

Dale Eugene Oberlander was the first child born to Ruben and Helen(Schuetzle) Oberlander January 27, 1951 in Miles City, MT. He was joined by sister Denise in 1955 and lived his childhood years in North Dakota and Montana. He graduated high school from Custer County High School in 1969. He attended school at Eastern Montana College and Montana State University earning his Bachelors and Master's degrees in higher education. He married Marlys Rogstad and had two sons, Jeffrey Todd and Jason Scott from that union.

Dale’s career was always focused on education and helping students. He worked for many years at Miles Community College in Financial Aid and progressed to Dean of Student Services and Vice President there before retiring from MCC. Dale enjoyed interacting with students and teaching business classes there. While at MCC, Dale met and married his second wife, Jane. Dale enjoyed many family camping trips in these years, and watching his kids participate in their activities.

After retiring from MCC. Dale continued working in education. His favorite job that he retired from full time, was being a Program Manager for kids who had aged out of foster care at Seattle Central Community College.

Dale’s eyes lit up when telling stories of his students’ successes. He deeply appreciated the Native American culture. In Seattle, Dale and Jane became dog parents to Abby. He became an amateur photographer and several of his photos adorn the walls of his home.

After retirement, Dale moved to Albion, WA and enjoyed spending time listening to music, playing computer games, reading books, watching his grandkids participate in activities, and spending time with his dogs Kahlua then Ocean. His favorite place to be was at a restaurant with good food, surrounded by his grandkids.

Dale was predeceased by his mother, Helen. Dale is survived by his wife, Jane, father, Ruben, sister, Denise Harvey (Jay), sons Jeffrey and Jason (Marcia), stepdaughter Kiara Held and his grandchildren Trae, Kaeden, Chaes, and Landon Oberlander, and Zyrie Held.

The family is planning a private memorial for a future time. We would love to have people who have memories to share of Dale, share them on his online obituary. Dale loved animals, in particular his dogs and pit bulls to that end.

Memorials can be made in his memory to Villalobos Rescue Center, Corridor Rescue (where his dog Kahlua was rescued from), Heart of the Underdog (where Ocean came from), or another animal support focused organization of your choosing.
