Jim Papineau Photo0001James Robert “Jim” Papineau of Moscow died Monday morning, April 18, 2016 at Good Samaritan Moscow Village. He was 81.

Jim was born June 22, 1934 in Moscow to Felix and Thelma O’Connor Papineau. He grew up in Moscow, attending the Ursuline Academy. He joined the Air Force and following basic training, came home on leave and married Shirley A. Soncarty at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow.

Following his discharge in 1956, they returned to Moscow where Jim served in the National Guard and began his meat cutting career at the Third Street Market, later working for Sanitary Meat Market with Bennie Olson, then to Safeway’s. They moved to Walla Walla for a few years, returning to Moscow working at Modern Way Grocery and Rosaures until his retirement in 1996.

Jim was a life-long communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed many hobbies including golfing at the University of Idaho Golf Course where he aced a hole-in-one, the Ee-Da-How Archery Club, the Troy-Deary Gun Club, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, making arrows, tying flies and was most happy fishing, especially on the St. Joe.

Jim is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Shirley, at their Moscow home, his daughters, JoAnn (Steve) King of Clarkston, Kendria (Dave) Cada of Potlatch and sons, Tim Papineau of Moscow and Lonnie (Dawn) Papineau of Coeur d’Alene. He also leaves 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a sister, Carol Pugh of Coeur d’Alene.

Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Don, Frank and Gary and a grandson, Chris.

A memorial mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Andrew Schumacher and Rev. Joseph Schmidt at 11:00 AM Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moscow. A luncheon and time of remembrance will follow at St. Mary’s Family Center.

A private burial will be held at the Moscow Cemetery prior to the service.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary’s School Foundation, PO Box 8485, Moscow, ID or to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, PO Box 8249, Missoula, MT 59807-8249.
