Steven D. Johnson

Steven Johnson 001

Steven Douglas Johnson began life November 6, 1962, born to Douglas & Helen Johnson in Santa Barbara, CA.  He joined sisters Victoria and Lori.

In December 1980 Steven, with his gentle spirit, embraced us – John & Lucretia Carlson as his parents, guardians, and family along with Diane & Steve Rathbun, Craig & Janneth Carlson and Lorene & Chris Middleton and their families.   Steve entered our family these many years ago and remains in our hearts with many good memories, and we have been blessed with the responsibility to be in his life.  April 25, 2015 Steve left this earth with our tears of grief for our loss, as well as tears of joy that Steve can now be free from earthly hindrances as he explores heaven above.  We believe he was God’s angel-in-disguise among us for 35 years.

Steve enjoyed family outings – camping, wood gathering, huckleberrying, swimming (that is in warm water), listening and dancing to music, and going bowling. He especially enjoyed eating and was our most ardent food enthusiast.

Steve’s ‘family’ grew as he received love and care while living in the Stepping Stones group home.  He later moved to an apartment under the care of Inclusions North. The last 10 years Steve’s day-by-day care was in his own apartment overseen by C&R.  These care givers became Steve’s extended ‘family’ by serving him with respect and loving care.

Steve enjoyed being involved over many years in Special Olympics and working in the community through Opportunities Unlimited.  We are grateful for the many who cared for him with delight & love. Steve touched many lives through the years.

In remembering Steven, in place of flowers, you may donate to Special Olympics.

A memorial service for Steve will be held May 9, 2015, at 1:00PM, at Short’s Funeral Chapel.  A reception will follow at the Latah County Fairgrounds 4-H Building.

I met Steve once when visiting my dear friend, Lori. He was very sweet and I loved watching the interaction between you two. The love between siblings is very special. My heart goes out to your family.
