Don was born July 9th, 1949 to Gordon N. and Norma Sheets. A country doctor assisted with the home birth, about 4 ½ miles outside of Norwood, Colorado. As Donald’s family moved around the West, he studiously attended school in Spencer, ID, Death Valley, CA, Lima, MT, Deary, ID (where his father passed away), and returned to graduate high school in Norwood.
He always enjoyed exploring his surroundings, spending many evenings camping out, hunting, or fishing. The U.S. Army drafted Donald in May 1969 and stationed him in Germany. He earned the rank of Sergeant during that time. After two years, Donald returned to the states. He then attended Lewis and Clark State College in nearby Lewiston, ID from 1975 to 1977. He made the Dean’s List and earned an Associate’s Degree. He supported himself by working at Shinn-Reimers T.V. & Appliance, Lower Granite Dam; he eventually had a career with, and retired from, the IKON Corporation. Donald was a loving son, loyal brother, and lighthearted uncle.
He is survived by his step-father Ralph Johnson & mother Norma Johnson, older brother Gordon V. R. Sheets, younger sister Sandy Otto, and younger half-brother Tom Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews. We all loved Don and will miss him very much.
